Regional Sustainability Leaders Attend Global Tourism Summit

Representatives from the Capricorn Coast joined more than 200 tourism leaders at the Global Sustainable Tourism Summit on the Gold Coast last week, hosted by Ecotourism Australia. The Summit focused on how tourism can deliver positive outcomes for communities, culture, the environment and local economies. The region was represented by Capricorn Enterprise, Livingstone Shire Council and Great Keppel Island Hideaway, highlighting the Capricorn Coast’s ongoing commitment to sustainable tourism and continuous improvement as an Ecotourism Certified Destination.

From world championship sailing to national cue sports and elite swimming competitions, the Capricorn Coast and Rockhampton continue to build their reputation as a leading regional sporting events destination in Australia.

Over the next two years, the region will host thousands of athletes, officials and spectators across a diverse calendar of state, national and international events, showcasing world-class facilities and memorable visitor experiences.

Events Critical to Regional Visitor Economy!

This week our region participated in a statewide initiative by Tourism & Events Queensland (TEQ) to bring Regional Tourism Organisations (RTOs) and Local Government Authorities (LGA) together to discuss the new state Events Strategy and how our region can be as involved as possible. Capricorn Enterprise was thrilled to be able to host an excellent roundtable discussion with TEQ, RRC and LSC this week.

Reef Distillers Triumphs at Global Awards

Capricorn Coast-based Reef Distillers has achieved remarkable international recognition, taking home two major honours at the World Drinks Awards held at the Waldorf Hilton in London last week. The award-winning distillery was named World's Best Classic Cocktail for its Espresso Martini, Bartender in a Bottle, while its innovative Zucchini Vodka claimed the title of World's Best Botanical Vodka.

Region Connects with Travellers at the QLD Caravan & Camping Supershow

Upcoming Changes to Card Surcharges

From 1 October 2026, Visa, Mastercard and eftpos may stop businesses from adding surcharges to card payments through updated merchant agreements. The changes will apply to both in-store and online payments. Changing the name to an “admin fee” or “service fee” will not avoid the ban and could breach Australian Consumer Law.
