Tourism Economic Value Increasing in the Capricorn Coast Region

The official TRA 2024/25 tourism satellite accounts just released, demonstrate that our regional growth is tracking well above the state, re-enforcing the need for regional investment. From City to Coastal towns, Rainforest to Reef,  Education to Experiences, 2,900 direct filled jobs are up 10.2% and a further 5,000 indirect filled jobs are up 6.8% across the Capricorn Coast and Rockhampton.  The direct and indirect economic value of the tourism industry to our region is critical to our broader economy – and growing!  

Rockhampton & Yeppoon Identified as Aussie Growth Hotspots

Renowned Australian Demographer Bernard Salt has named both Rockhampton and Yeppoon as two growth hotspots, quoted in his July 2026 summary: “Based on the most recent ABS estimate of the population of the 98 largest cities and towns on the Australian continent in 2050, Australia will get 4 new 100,000+ cities by 2050 including Rockhampton, Bunbury, Mackay, Launceston" and "The Aussie penchant for lifestyle is evident in the rise of the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Hervey Bay, Yeppoon, Busselton, Airlie Beach-Cannonvale."

New Reef Distillers Tasting Room brings Capricorn Coast flavours to life

Round 2 of the $20 million Regional Tourism Infrastructure Fund (RTIF) is now open

Applications are now open providing grants of up to $300,000 for tourism infrastructure projects across regional Queensland. The program supports projects that help attract more visitors, encourage longer stays and increase visitor spending in communities outside South East Queensland. Applications close Wednesday 9 September.

Kids for the Reef program opens

The $6 million ‘Kids for the Reef’ school excursion rebate program is offering Australian Government subsidies for school trips to the Great Barrier Reef. The program is the heart of the Australian Government’s Reef Educational Experience Fund (REEF). Applications close 12 May 2028, unless funds are exhausted before this.
